Who we are
Our house is located on the edge of Poggio Murella, a small town in a (surprisingly) lesser known part of Tuscany, called Maremma. It’s an old house, built of stone and decorated in Tuscan style.There is a porch with a stunning view over the entire valley – the nearby Saturnia thermal baths, vineyards and fields. It’s a place where in the summer you can hear the mesmerizing hum of cicadas and grasshoppers. Where the smell of wild rosemary and dry figs hits in the heat of the afternoon sun. Where you can meet a porcupine, birds hunt over the valley, and from time to time a neighbor’s cat comes to us for cuddling.
Poggio is located in the heart of Etruscan Italy – it is a perfect starting point for visiting nearby cities of Pitigliano, Sorano or Sovana. In our neighborhood, there are also many hiking trails, natural hot springs and – most importantly – peace and quiet of the Italian countryside. You can go on a ride to the seaside or simply sit in a hammock in our lovely garden. You can enjoy pizza, local delicacies and Tuscan, delicious wine. Dolce vita. There isn’t much in Poggio, but it’s all you need for a truly Italian, rural vacanze
About the Apartments
Our house consists of two autonomous apartments. Each has a kitchen equipped with everything you need to prepare delicious meals, a spacious bedroom, a bathroom and a cozy lounge area. From the windows a wonderful view spreads over the entire valley. There is also a garden where you can relax outdoors. There are several family trattorias, our beloved Bar Centrale and a small grocery store within a walking distance from our apartments. Every morning a local seller stops right next to the house offering fresh bread and croissants. Several times a week Poggio Murella is also visited by traveling vendors selling fresh fruit, vegetables and fish. Right next to us, the Muro del Pirata marks its finish line – a steep road, which is a legendary challenge for cyclists. It leads from our apartments directly to Terme di Saturnia – natural hot cascades of thermal waters which you can enjoy all year round.
